MSMESB: We’ve Preached to the Choir—Now What?
Over the years, many good ideas have been put forward at MSMESB meetings for improving the teaching and practice of Statistics in business schools. Many faculty, publishers and software developers have incorporated these ideas into their offerings, sometimes with more success than others.
The recent papers by McAlevy, Everett and Sullivan (The Statistician, 2001, pp. 321-33) and by Love and Hildebrand (American Statistician, 2002, to appear) highlight these successes, but also point to the need for new strategic directions if further progress is to be achieved.
This session will consist of two parts. In the first part, a panel representing faculty, publishers and software developers will present their views on the key issues[a list of discussion questions will be developed]. In the second part, the audience will break out into small discussion groups [the aim is to involve all publisher and software representatives at the meeting by spreading them around the groups]. Groups will then report back and a summary of key recommendations will be posted on the MSMESB web site.
