MSMESB 2003: The Next Generation

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville has been selected as the site for MSMESB 2003. This will be the WWW site for information about MSMESB 2003 as planning progresses. I am providing the ability to offer inputs (ideas for sessions, suggestions of speakers, other ideas for conference improvement) interactively.

Here are some basic facts about the plan for the conference:

Dates– June 12, 13, 14 

We will start with a reception the night of June 12, 2002. There will (perhaps) be a session at 4:00 that afternoon joint with the associated workshop, "From Consultants to Leaders," described below.

We have tentatively reserved a block of 100 rooms at the Hilton, which is a 15 minute walk or a short van ride to the conference site. Phone 865-523-2300

Room Accommodations for Conference meetings/activities

We will use both the Stokely Management Center and the adjacent University Center.

Location for vendors

TBD – adjacent to at least some of the meeting rooms.

Lunch and Dinner Location Options

                   We have a number of locations that would be appropriate for a catered

Friday night dinner within walking distance of the hotel and the Stokely Management Center

Tour of a Local Business

          Working on this at present.

Proposed Program Theme

The New Generation (aligned around themes such as teaching to a new generation of students with different expectations, such as surviving as faculty member in a world of new expectations from deans and others, etc…)

 

Registration Fee and other budget matters

Proposed registration fee - $149. We may be able to offer a discount on combined registration for both MSMESB 18 and the 1.5 day conference discussed below. The registration fee for MSMESB 18 will include Friday lunch and dinner and Saturday lunch, plus continental breakfasts Friday and Saturday.

The conference will be preceded by a 1.5 day conference “From Consultants to Leaders” facilitated by Roger Hoerl, Ron Snee, Bill Parr, Angie Patterson, Geoff Vining and Van Bowen. TRAVEL

By Car

 

Traveling North on I-75 or East on I-40: OR Traveling from Airport, Take 129 North to I-40 East:  Take 40 East into Downtown Area.  Take Exit #388 (U.S. 441; Smoky Mountain Exit).  You will exit off Interstate to right, stay left.  Go through tunnel to Henley Street.  Go to the second traffic light, turn left onto Church Avenue.  Hotel is one block up on left.

 

 

 

 

 

Traveling South on I-75 (I-275 South: Take I-275 South to Knoxville.  Take I-40 East, 441 South Exit.  Follow signs for 441 South Henley Street.  Go through tunnel to Henley Street.  Go to the second traffic light, turn left onto Church Avenue.  Hotel is one block up on left.

 

 

 

 

 

Traveling West on I-40:  Take Exit #388A (James White Parkway) – This will exit left.  Take first Exit, Summit Hill.  Turn right at stop sign onto Summit Hill.  Turn left after fourth traffic light onto Locust Street.  Hotel is three blocks up on left.

Climate

 

Weather in Knoxville during this time is usually warm.  Dress is casual (slacks, sport shirts, jeans or business attire is appropriate).
