Managing Variation - An Overview for Executives and Senior Managers
This half day course is designed for executives and senior managers who need to understand how variation affects them in their own professional lives, how to better interpret and respond to that data, and how others in the organization should interpret and respond to data. For many this course ends up being the start-up for further study. No use of calculators is required in this half day course.
Topics considered in the course include:
| Principles for understanding data | |
| Specification based approaches as distinguished from statistical approaches to understanding data | |
| How an executive or senior manager can learn from the variation in typical management report data | |
| How it makes a difference which way we respond to data | |
| How control charts can help in understanding variation |
This is a dynamic class which often leads to spirited discussion. It should never be scheduled for less than a four time window (with about three breaks of 15 minutes each) to permit us to avoid rushing the material, and to still allow for a rich and full discussion of the topics.
