Textbook Publisher's Panel

                                John D. McKenzie, Babson College
                                Session Chair

Curt Hinrichs, Senior Editor, Duxbury Press
                                Scott Isenberg, Senior Editor, McGraw-Hill

This panel consists of a group of experienced editors from some of the
major suppliers of our statistics textbooks. They will initially present
their perspective on the market and on the partnership between faculty and
publishers in supplying materials to help learning. How do publishers
decide on books to develop and on the question of creating, packaging, and
delivering better learning materials? How do publishers view their role in
the overall teaching and learning process? Publishers do not decide on
the specific content but instead try to respond as they interpret the
content for different market segments. In this session we will explore the
understandings of experienced Senior Editors and interact with them.
Discussions between faculty and the editors panel will seek answers to
questions such as; How are statistics books and learning materials used by
students? How do faculty select the books that they adopt?
